Protection placed the on the front legs to guard agains the strikes that the horse gives itself with its hind legs. Bell boots are particularly used by those that do not realise that the horse is not walking on its feet naturally. The presence of shoes or boots causes the horse to be unable to place its hind legs correctly. Without shoes or boots, the horse does not hit its own front legs. The shock of the shoes against the forelimbs is like that of a powerful hammer!
